I felt this book deserved five stars just for its setting; the book ended up living upto the initial reaction it invoked in me.
Game for Anything is a visual documentary narrated in words. It Nikki Meyer’s own story of how she, an urban girl, discovered the bush, fell in love with it and made a career out of working in the bush.
Nikki’s prose is devoid of sentimentality, which I like, and this makes the bush the central character in her story. Her story is not just about the untamed bush, but is also about life in a still-patriarchical society that is changing that bit slowly. The courage and determination of Nikki to forge a life for herself in such a society, in the bush, comes across.
Game for Anything is a great first effort by Nikki Meyer and I eagerly await her second book.
